[net.micro.apple] To Mac or To Lisa

moriarty@fluke.UUCP (Jeff Meyer) (10/21/84)

I am in the process of deciding between purchasing a Lisa or a Mac, and have
several questions which the salesmen have been unable/unwilling to answer.
Please MAIL any answers to me; I am just starting to read this newsgroup (we
haven't got fa.info-mac or net.micro.apple.mac here yet), and I realize that
these questions have probably come up before. I'll be happy to forward the
answers I get to anyone who asks.

1)	On the Mac (and, I assume, with the Fat Mac), the amount of
information one can write with MacWrite is dependent on the amount of
memory. Is the same true of LisaWrite, or does it have some system for
swapping text off and onto the disk? Will MacWrite soon have some type of
virtual memory system?

2)	I've heard rumors that the Lisa Operating system cannot access the
new Lisa 2/10's hard disk. True of false?

3)	Are there any significant differences between the capabilities of
MacWrite and LisaWrite, and MacPaint and LisaPaint (and LisaDraw)?

4)	Any opinions on the other facilities (especially the LisaTalk modem
system) of the Lisa Office software would be appreciated.

5)	Does anyone know whether the Lisa software will have a new revision
in the near future?

6)	Given the following priorities (pretend like money is *hardly* any
object), which would you choose, the fat Mac or the Lisa?

	1) Word processing with fancy fonts.

	2) Drawing and art programs.

	3) Being able to combine the two (i.e. letterheads w/art, etc.)

	4) Virtual terminal capability.

	5) Some sort of home use database system.

Programming with either does not seem to be a consideration at this time.

Thanks in advance for any help -- it is appreciated!
