From: Christopher Ho <Chris@ecld.#eclnet> My Rana Elite Three floppy drive on my Apple ][+ seems to have gone permanently write-protected. I think the problem could be in one of three places (in order of what I think is most likely): 1) the light/ LED and photo-sensitive detector that senses the cutout in each floppy, 2) the user's write-protect switch (temporarily used instead of using a sticker to cover the floppy's cutout), or 3) some of the electronics on the board with the drive. I took a brief look around inside; nothing was obviously loose or blown. The drive mechanism was an MPI 92 (I think that's the number), a 96 tpi, 80 track double sided model. Does anyone have any suggestions on easy ways to pinpoint the problem? Any idea how much a dealer would charge? I'd hate to pay $50 or more to replace an LED... Replies/comments to me, please. -------
