I'm sure those who read Apple's ads in the Newsweek election edition (you know, the edition with Apple ads *only*!) saw the latest marketing gimmick called "Test-drive a MacIntosh" The ad said that "qualified persons" could go to a "participating dealer" and take a Mac home overnight and play with it. Wondering who the "qualified persons" were, I called my nearest "participating dealer" and asked. Apparently, you are qualified if you hold a Visa or Mastercard, and are willing to have them fill out a charge slip for whatever the price of a Mac is. They hold the charge slip overnight, then give it back to you or tear it up when you bring it back. Our participating dealer has four Macs available for loan, and it throws in four pieces of software for the "test drive" -- MacWrite, MacPaint, Multiplan(TM of Microsoft) and something else that the salesman didn't know about at the time. Anyone bite on this offer yet? If and when I do, I'll share my experiences. Carl Blesch
