I have a two-year old apple //e with a Novation Apple-Cat 300 baud modem. The following problem has existed ever since I purchased the system: If the system is booted up cold and I dial out, a connection will always be established upon the first try. However, when booting up and attempting to dial out *after* using the apple for more than a few minutes, a connection with the host will NOT be established, regardless of who or what is being dialed. The time necessary to elapse before I can successfully dial out and establish a connection again seems to equal the time the apple was left on prior to dialing. I sent the modem back to Novation earlier this year, and it was returned "fixed" according to them. However, the problem still remains; the necessary elapse time was just reduced a little. Does anybody have any insight as to what this problem is caused by (heat?) and what the cure might be? Thanks in advance, Dina Street ucbvax\!ucbtopaz\!dina
