Many moons ago, I posted a request for music-related Apple 2 software. I was most interested in copyist's tools, programs that dealt with written music, but I posted a general request to see what it might bring. I didn't get very many responses, but here's the summary: Valerie Polichar (sdcc3!valerie) referred me to the AlphaSyntauri, a syntheisizer. Kaare Christian (cmcl2!rna!kc), whose wife had just completed a survey for *The Computer Buyers Guide*, sent the following: My wife has three suggestions: Music Construction Set from Electronic Arts. If you point at the key box and hold down the selector on your pointing device the key names will scroll by. When you let up, the given key will be selected and the computer will automatically transpose the current composition to that key. Sounds Neat! Songwriter from Scarborough Systems It claims to be able to transpose, but I don't know any details. Songwriter displays a piano roll instead of a staff, so it is easy for novices but may not be appropriate for the cognoscenti. A program called Envelope Sharper from Rainbow Systems works in conjunction with their Music Composer program. Both programs require the MMI DAC board. ES claims to do whole octave transpositions. Kenn Barry (dual!ames!barry) also wrote to refer me to a synthesizer (I don't seem to have a copy of his letter, so I can't quote it).
