[net.micro.apple] 212a Cat problems: answer mode

Technical Support isn't answering. Is that what they mean by technical
support? :-) ... When I try to use the 212a Apple-Cat ][ for purposes other
than communications (i.e., voice/music synthesizers, etc), the modem sends out
a carrier (answer mode) tone every time it goes off-hook. However, it does
this only when I have the 212a board (with slot-saver configuration) hooked up,
but NOT when I'm using the Cat without the 212a board. It seems that the modem
is defaulting to answer mode. Could this problem be due to the fact that I'm
using a motherboard older than revision 7 (the ones that don't take the lower-
case chips, etc)? If not, has anyone had a similar problem, or can anyone
suggest a solution?
