Funny, Ben, I'd never heard of that usage before - I've been designing disk
controllers and suchlike hardware for about 12 years now.  The process of
recovering head position by moving to track zero is caller recalibration,
not "resynching".  Resynchronisation is exactly that - correcting an error
in (or loss of) timing.  The Apple's self-synch bytes are an example of a
device used for resynching.
