I think there was some discussion on the net recently about a new release of Softerm II. Could someone give me specific revision numbers? I'm thinking about buying this hw/sw package from a discount house that sells it for $125. But I'm a little concerned because Softronix still sells it for $195. What aren't I getting? -- Mike Mueller uucp: {decvax,harpo,ihnss,pur-ee,ucbvax,unc,zehntel}!teklabs!vice!mike ARPA: vice!mike.tek@Rand-Relay CSnet: vice!mike@tek US Mail: Mike Mueller, Tektronix, Inc. HI, Just want to report that the SOFTERM package has a problem with an enhanced //e (mine). It uses the *wrong* character set for most of its menue headers so you get the form and icon character set. Hope their new version ($50 if you turn in the original) is ready for the enhanced //e and ProDos on a hard disk. It is a complete terminal program with too many options to remember so you got to have the menus. I notice one other little item. When the cursor is on an UC character it turns the character into something else instead of just reverse video. I have sent for the new brochure and will report on what it says and any answer I get when I call to complain about this versions problems. Tom Merrick ATT BTL N. Andover MA. 617-681-6436

There is no reason that I know of to pay full list price for any product unless you feel that you need to subsidize the company that makes it. As for Softerm, they charge about $100.00 to retailers so their price is a bit out of line. If you need, want, and/or can use the latest version, you have to have a 128k Apple //e or //c and ask for the //c version.

Andover MA. 617-681-6436 ---------------------------------------------------------- There is a new video driver that works with the enhanced //e that doesn't use any of the mouse text characters on older versions of Softerm. Call the online update service and download it. As far as the ProDos & hard disk version don't hold your breath. It probably will be released after a couple of months (I am hopping it will be ready by Xmas). Loran Yourk AT&T Technologies Lisle, IL. 312-510-6885
