I once had the same problem, so I started collecting termcaps for the Apple, only to find that most of them didn't work as expected. The problem seems to reside in the terminal driver in the Kernel. Different computers have different Kernels, so the best thing to do is to talk to your local terminal/Kernel guru and let him/her have a look at the following termcaps. The one I have found working best, both on a PDP 11/45 and on a VAX, is the 'ap' entry. I use this entry together with Ascii Express Pro 4.20, with incoming and outgoing terminals both on 0, emulation On. I hope this will be of any help to those of you who are still searching. ----------------------------< CUT HERE >----------------------------------- # The modem interface is permitted to discard LF (maybe DC1), otherwise # passing characters to the 80-column firmware via COUT (PR#3 assumed). # Auto-wrap does not work right due to newline scrolling delay, which also # requires that you set "stty cr2". # Note: Cursor addressing is only available via the Pascal V1.1 entry, # not via the BASIC PR#3 hook. All this nonsense can be avoided only by # using a terminal emulation program instead of the built-in firmware. ab|apple2e|Apple //e:\ :bl=^G:bw:cd=4*^K:ce=4^]:cl=100^L:co#80:ho=^Y:is=^R^N:kd=^J:kl=^H:\ :kr=^U:ku=^K:li#24:me=^N:mr=^O:ms:nw=100\r:rs=^R^N:se=^N:sf=^W:\ :so=^O:sr=^V:up=^_:bs:nc: ap|apple2e-p|Apple //e via Pascal:\ :cm=^^%r%+ %+ :tc=apple2e: #This entry assumes that you are using an apple with the UCSD Pascal #language card. SYSTEM.MISCINFO is assumed to be the same as that #supplied with the standard apple except that screenwidth should be set #using SETUP to 80 columns. Note that the right arrow in not mapped in #this termcap entry. This is because that key, on the Apple, transmits #a ^U and would thus preempt the more useful "up" function of vi. So is there any one who has a updated termcap > for an apple computer?? Forget it; without a working "cr" capability, most screen-oriented programs are useless on the Apple II. If you are using software that emulates something else, you avoid this problem; in which case, set TERM= whatever terminal is being emulated (often vt52 or vt100).
