Hi everyone, Ok, since I'm the one who started it all, the Sider is on a Christmas sale for $595 only until December 31. I called First Class Peripherals and asked them about the problems they've been having and they said that it was a problem in the old winchester drive mechanism, and they are using new mechanisms now that eliminate the noise problems (and probably the crash problems). Their return policy is 50/50, you pay for the postage to send it back, they'll pay to return it to you. With the one year warranty, its a pretty good deal. I also found out about a new 20 Megabyte Sider for the Apple // series, and it's on Xmas sale for $895, call First Class for more details. Benjy Mouse University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

I talked to a guy named Dave in the tech-support department. He told me my Apple was too old to accomodate a Sider drive. Aparently, the ][ series (I own a revision zero board from 1977 with upgraded Applesoft ROMS) generates too much RFI. That interferes with the drive and connecting cable... (Probably interferes with DMA transfers.) Then I called the parent company Xebec and talked to a few people there. Still no hope.. They said try back in January, as they were re-working the interface cards to be less sensitive to noise. I'm giving up... Does anybody have a fat-Mac they want to get rid of? -- Jim Hayes UCSD sdcsvax!sdcc13!33500911 "Dave!?! 'panic: Nuclear war imminant.' message popped up on the 4.3 BSD VAX again...
