Ok. I got a few responses to my posting about getting AppleWorks to run
on a ][+ with an 80 column card. Before I go any further I must say
that I own an Apple //e, w/micromax 80e 80 column card, C. Itoh
Prowriter, SSM Apic/G parallel printer card, Super Serial card, Integer
card, Mousecard, and, yes, Disk Drive Interface card w/2 Disk ][ drives
(I just had to mention it all, didn't I? :-) ) I don't have a ][+. I
just have a habbit of picking up little bits and pieces here and there.
So, let me pass unto you, humble reader, that which I have dredged up
from my muddled brain and backissues.....

There are two modifiers to AppleWorks that I know of right now:

Plus-Works, by Norwich Data Services, Ltd.
Modify Plus, by Videx

(addresses at end or article)

Modify Plus:

I guess this is a preboot disk. I assume it is similar to the preboot
disk for Applewriter. They have an add in the December A+ on page 35.
They say you need a Videoterm w/ inverse chip or UltraTerm 80/132-column
card. They also support a few expansion cards:

Titan Technologies 32, 64, or 128K
Saturn Ramboard 128K
Legend Industries 64KC, 128KDE or S'Card
Any other board that is compatible with the above.

Modify Plus will expand the desktop to a maximum or 121K. They claim
that the "UltraTerm is the ideal display card for AppleWorks Modify
Plus" but that it only supports 80 x 24 display.

Incidentally, Videx says that if you write to them they will tell give you
a complete list of programs that they have preboots for. Some of them
were MultiPlan, Word Juggler //e, Word Star, FlashCalc and SuperCalc.
That's all I know about it.

Plus-Works:

They have an add in the March 86 Nibble, page 60. Beside giving the ][+
AppleWorks, it also allows you to expand the desktop on a //e if you
have the extra memory.

This one sounds a little bit better than Videxs'. Up to 1M desktop, 4200
records in the database, works on a Franklin, suppports all major 80
colum cards (I'm quoting this from their add, so don't blame me!),
permanent and dynamic RAMdisk features, all versions of AppleWorks
supported (Modify plus only works with versions A & B [??? I thought it
was 1.1 & 1.2?]), expands desktop into CP/M RAM cards, optional patch to
help with printer cards.

Thru March 1 (tomorrow. Makes a lot of sense, right? I mean, they put it
in the March issue which isn't supposed to come out 'til March...) they'll
give you $20 towards their XM or XMP programs if you send them a competiter's
version (Yeah, that makes a lot of sense for me to say, right? After all,
the reason I'm posting this in the first place is for you to find this stuff
anyway, let alone trade it in :-)). Plus-Works alone is $19.95 + $3 shipping.
Required AppleWorks, 64K ][+ or compatible, 80 col & shift key mod. Maximum
desktop is 10K. You can upgrade to XM or XMP at any time for $30.

You can get XM or XMP for $49.95 + $3. XM requires same as above, but with
Legend, Saturn, or compatible RAM card (A.P.P.L.E. Big Board, Know Drive,
Prometheus, etc.) or Apple //e w/ ramcard. XMP requires CP/M card with
64K RAM (PCPI or Micropro).

There was a short blurb in Open-Apple (August 85) on this one. They say
that it doesn't increase the database record numbers, but their add says
they do. People might be interested in that issue of Open-Apple because
it is almost entirely devoted to AppleWorks. Open-Apple is constantly
having articles and letters about AppleWorks. You should subscribe.
It's $2 an issue and well worth it. Now the addresses...

Disclaimer: I know nothing abotu these products except Open-Apple.
Open-Apple doesn't know me from Adam, except as a paying subscriber. I
don't have anything from either Videx or Norwich Data Services Ltd. If
they get mad about anything I've said, tough cookies. I repeated their
adds in short, and if they don't like it, they can pay me some money as
a fee. I don't have any connection with anyone, not even my parents...
