[net.micro.apple] Followup: Pascal for ][e's

halloran@unirot.UUCP (Bob Halloran) (05/01/86)

Thanks to all who provided information on Pascal's for the ][. Special
thanks to Jeff Bartlett (jb@rti-sel) for combining some reviews into
a consolidated overview.

Remaining questions:

Anyone have experience with Apple's new 'Instant Pascal'?
Any benefits/drawbacks over UCSD, etc.?

Differences between 'Apple Pascal' and the version currently
being marketed by Pecan, who I gather bought rights to UCSD from
SofTech?

Many respondents have spoken well of Kyan Pascal. How complete
is the version? In teaching the language, particularly for the Advanced
Placement test, emphasis is placed on pointer manipulation. This is
apparently a sore point for some Apple Pascals.

The systems being used are ][e's with 128K/80 column cards,
single drive. No networking or hard drives. Does this work against
UCSD, which I gather works poorly in a single-floppy environment.

For those suggesting that a second drive + Z80 card + Turbo
might be cost-effective vs. Apple Pascal, remember that as a school,
they will get substantial discounting (I believe in the range of 40%)
over the 'list' price.

Thanks again to all for their time.
