For a hardware type-ahead buffer, and a LOT more, get the Videx Enhancer II
keyboard enhancer. This device, with a Videx Videoterm 80-column card, can
give your Apple II Plus a significant increase in capability at a low cost;
for three years they have helped me resist buying an Apple IIe.

The Enhancer II provides type-ahead, two auto-repeat speeds, the ability to
produce every ASCII character, provision for a totally original UPPER-case
Apple II keyboard if necessary, the ability to program every key and every
SHIFT- and CTRL- key combination, the ability to program key macros. Last
but not least are Videx' outstanding manuals and customer support. You can
get one of these jewels for about $100 from mail order houses.

A completely different solution would be try the Write-Away word processor
from Peregrine Software, 1160 Appleseed Lane, St. Louis, MO 63132, phone
314-997-2369 at about $120. This word processor will work on any Apple II,
is fast and POWERFUL. It works fine in either 40 or 80 columns and has an
excellent terminal/file transfer capability. Standard DOS 3.3 TEXT files,
and the program disk is completely copyable for backups. An excellent
Apple II product. It does lack a few desirable features: no split-screen,
no type-over capability; cursor movement is rather primitive.
