I thought net.micro.apple would be flooded by the end of this week with news and specs about the apple IIgs. I read an article in a magazine (computable) which was to detailed to be just a rumor. The new II will have a total of 6 custom IC's : - The Fast Processor Interface, to control the speed of the CPU, input and output. - Mega II, contains most of the chips from the apple IIe/c. Emulator chip? - Ensonic sound chip. 15 simultaneous sound channels ! - Glusonic (not sure about this name, I don't have the article by hand), which can control the ensonic sound chip so it can run in background of the CPU - Graphics controller chip, includes the graphics modes of the IIe/c but also supports very high resolution display (whatever that may be) in colour. - 65C816 CPU, capable of executing all 65(C)02 instructions, 8 and 16 bit mode 24 adres modes (13 new ones) and an 8 bits databus and 24 bits (16Mb) address. Standard 256 Kb ram (not much considered prices of memory chips) expandeble to 8 Mb and 128 Kb ROM (exp. to 1 Mb) which includes Quickdraw II. 7 I/O expansion slots and 1 memory expansion slot (sounds familiar). Anyone with more specs, please post them ! ** Ruud Linders UUCP: ..!mcvax!philmds!achel!ruudl
