Peter: I've used three different 2400bps modems on my Apple //e. They are the US Robotics Courier, MultiTech 224, and Datagram DCE-224. All of them work beautifully with ASCII Express "Pro", ASCII Express MouseTalk, and ModemWorks (a modem utility package that I have written). Since I am beta-testing one of the above mentioned modems, I don't want to make any public statements as to which one I think is best. All three of them are very good, and all work admirably. The deciding factor for me would probably be price at this stage of the game, however. But to answer your question: yes, the ASCII Express series software will work with them, as well as many other terminal programs. The advantages of the extra speed are obvious, and the only real disadvantage is the potential for increased line-noise. My telephone exchange is pretty clean (Pac-Bell, San Diego), so 2400bps is not a problem at all. One other disadvantage (though this is rapidly changing) is the lack of 2400bps support for some information systems, as well as the low support from many of the public-access BBS systems.
