[net.women] real women's lib

Yes, Kimberly, "real women's lib if giving women the opportunity
to be full time wives and mothers too". There is no reason for
hostility and division among women on this issue.
EVERY MOTHER IS A WORKING MOTHER!!!
The issue is choice.
I personally think it is wonderful that you do what it is that
you do (homemaker, mother, volunteering, gardening, taking time
for friendships and listening to "latch key kids"). What
you may not be realizing, is what a unique situation you have.
Most of us cannot financially afford to do that. Families consisting
of a husband as sole wage earner, a wife as homemaker and mother,
and two children, make up less that 10% of the families in the
U.S. Most of us work because we have to. Even if we didn't
have to many of us would choose to. I'm happy that it is choice
for you. Keep up the good work of listening to children who
need to talk to someone while mom and dad are working; this not
only supports them but
also working mothers/parents who may not have the same choice that you
do, but who also realize the importance of being there to listen.

There are many many women's issues that need to be addressed.
Women cannot afford to be divided; we must work together and help
and support one another. We have all been criticized enough.

In reply to woods: I (along with many other feminists) fully
realize where the power in our society lies! We also realized,
generations ago, that women do not get rights by "asking" or
waiting for men to give it to us. It is unrealistic to expect
that. It is also not our responsibilty to "actively enlist"
men; it is up to them to educate themselves (just as it is my
responsibility to own up to racism; as I reap the rewards of racism,
so do men reap the rewards of sexism.)
