[net.women] "Singer Scenario"

bmcjmp (01/29/83)

The "Singer Scenario" is invalid as an abortion example because it sets up
an artificial situation that is not analagous to real pregnancy. Remember, a
pregnant woman is not usually immobilized as in the case of somebody in the
situation you described. As for the questions presented, I could not in good
conscience do something that I know would result in somebody's death, be it
pulling a plug, or dropping a bomb. But to think the "Singer Scenario" is
anything like pregnancy is to be deluded.

Have you ever heard of "rape"? The "Singer Scenario" as stated is almost
the same circumstances. The main differences are that 1) the "child" will
live to be an adult (you won't raise it), and 2) you won't be related to the
child. And, if you had bothered to read the questions, they did ask about
the voluntary case, which is closer to a normal pregnancy.
