"...[to discuss issues, among which are] life, liber[t]y, the pursuit of happiness, etc. ...abortion debates are ... somehow fundamentally different. It is a moral, ethical, legal, and knock-down-drag-out issue, which only INCIDENTALLY [my emphasis] involves women ... (it's THEY who have the babies..."). (The above is obvious an edited quote. ) I disagree. The discussion IS appropriate, especially since it is THEIR "life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness" that is being discussed. That sort of disqualifies use of the word "incidentally" as a modifier of "involves women". And a few days ago in these pages( screens?), someone commented that nobody has ever been convinced to change their view about this "emotional" issue after merely reading some words about it. I disagree with that statement also. I changed my mind after reading Ayn Rand's arguments. -- Stuart Hollander (ucbvax!decvax!genradbolton!stuart)
