Eve was equal to Adam, the book of Genesis says... Genesis I, 27 "And God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them." This is from the J. H. Hertz translation of the Pentateuch and Haftorahs. Now I'm not one who believes that the bible is the "gospel" truth... the direct word of God (See net.religion for the battle on this subject) but the spirit of the thing I go along with. In this particular story, the more important of the two major stories of creation to the Jewish tradition, the term "man" is used not to signify the male, but to signify the species. Hebrew is a language with genders on pronouns... Man, although implying a plurality, is a singular so the translation uses "him", since the hebrew word for a group of people of mixed sex is the same as the word for a group of men, "him" is used to mean "they(masculine)". This is not a recent revelation in the traditional view of this work - it has been viewed this way since before Jesus was born. I don't mean to preach -- In fact I don't want to. It just gaulls me that some "scholar" has suddenly come out saying what the rabbis have been saying for ages - Males and females are equals in spirit and in creation according to the scriptures. Please don't flame me here - If you must flame and don't want to mail it to me, flame me in net.religion... Daniel Glasser ...!decvax!sultan!dag
