[net.women] Abortion: two more sideline arguments

lsk (02/11/83)

Larry S. Kaufman
Just to throw some more arguments into the fire:

Someone stated that we have agreed that in our society murder is a no-no.
Not really, It is perfectly acceptable for a general, or choose the military
type title you want, to send men off to kill other men in war. Furthermore,
he knows damn well a bunch of them will be killed. Society condones murder.

Also, don't forget that not so long ago in the past, it was standard practice
to put new born babes out on the mountainside for a night or two. If they died,
they obviously didn't deserve to live because they weren't tough enough.
Now, if THAT standard was still in effect, then PROBABLY abortion would be
much more of a non-issue, because if it's ok to kill 2 day olds, it must be ok
to kill 0 - 9 month old fetus'.

Larry Kaufman hit the nail on the head in pointing out that we don't
grant people the right to life AFTER they are able to breathe for
themselves. The starving multitudes of the world would love to have
this right for themselves, as would those hiding from bombs and bullets
(not counting the soldiers who gloriously defend their sacred soil
or ideologies or just are afraid to be shot by their superiors).
The abortion argument seem rather like the argument as to whether
to renew the gold paint on a rotting wooden carving. It's really
nice to respect life, but lets respect ALL life, not just unborn
humans.
