The arguments that run something like "it's not *moral* to regulate what women can do with their bodies" sounds, to me, quite similar to the "God is on our side" statements you find in war propoganda. Why do you need to be morally justified? Nothing about morality in the Constitution. In fact, the method by which our laws and Constitution are interpreted are amoral to the core. Anything that is not prohibited is permitted, and the current interpretation, by a conservative Supreme Court, is that abortion is not prohibited. On the other hand, it seems silly to argue that life begins just outside the womb. At some point, while it isinside the mother's body a large number of people will regard the foetus as a human being. So should we call abortion homicide? Yes, sometimes. Should we arrest the doctor and the woman having the abortion? No, not ever. We imperfect humans take and save life, at our own discrection, all the time. No influence of fate or hand of God excuses us. Providentially, our Constitution makes no attempt to define or enforce morality. Why must the proponents of legalized abortion try to sactify their viewpoint when it is perfectly harmonius with this nation's guiding philosophy anyway? And this time I want some answers. We can all sit here and stroke ourselves for being such fine civil libertarians all we want but there's some sloppy thinking going on here that noone should be proud of. Cheers, Zig
