embarrassed (03/11/83)
I (a male) very recently made an unthinking remark that was quite crude. (I was trying to make a bad joke and it came out wrong.) I am sure the female in question was offended. When I realized what I said I was mortified and very embarrassed. Fortunately (or perhaps unfortunately) I was leaving the room as I said it. I frankly am too embarrassed to apologize. As remarks like this are not my nature, it will not happen again and I'm sure I won't get shot down for it from others. But how do I handle what I did do? Do I forget about it and hope it passes, and let my exemplary behavior in the future show it was an isolated and unfortunate incident? Do I apologize and risk offending worse? Please help. I prefer replies from women, as I'm sure this is not an unusual occurrence. If you were on the receiving end, what would you want me to do? Please post replies. Thank you. Ruefully, Mr. Embarrassed
