I have several female friends (including leman) who feel that all this stuff about desexing the language \first/ is bullcookies. I often find myself in arguments with them about it. Of course, to be honest I must admit that I also get into arguments with both men and women who feel that this is necessary, since I, myself, am undecided about it all. However, I would say that among my acquaintances, the number of women who feel this is all unnecessary (or at least overblown) probably equal the number of men I know who feel that way. Since (due to the imbalance in my profession) I know more men than women, I would tend to doubt this sort of simplistic stereotyping. Ken
