[net.music] Votes for net.music.[g]dead ?

rcd@opus.UUCP (Dick Dunn) (03/14/85)

First of all, MAIL responses to me; I will collect them. PLEASE!

Should a subgroup of net.music be created--topic, the Grateful Dead? This
topic has come up in the past but I've suggested against it due to the
comparatively small amount of traffic about the Dead. Traffic has been up
(sic) for a few months now, and it might be time to do something.

Let me know your feelings about creating such a group--if you're a
DeadHead, or perhaps if you're NOT a D'Head and would like some of the
stuff culled out of net.music. I will tally responses and post results,
and if the response is favorable ==> I'll forward a suggestion for
creation of a new subgroup. <==

The general idea that people seem to have in mind is that, while the Dead
are a group of general interest to rockfolk, some of the minutiae, trivia,
etc., may not be. For example, the fact that they have a piece of music
written in 11/8 time is interesting to lots of people; the layout of the
Beast or the design of the Beam might be of interest to musicians.
However, the fact that Jerry changed his shirt [color], the origin of the
Terrapin Station album cover, or the songlist from the 9 March benefit
shows, are probably not of general interest to net.music.

Again, MAIL your votes and I'll tally them; let's not generate a bunch of
one-word postings with 500-byte headers.
