A bunch of us were trying to decide where to go for lunch. One guy said, "I've got a taste for pizza," but then one woman said, "Anything but pizza. I hate pizza." This is apparently non-sexist but sounds strange. "Woman" sounds much more formal than "guy", and gives me the impression of a less personal relationship. "Guy" seems to be an informal referent to a male peer with different connotations than "man". If "woman" is the equivalent of "man", then what is the equivalent of "guy"? Whenever I think of using the word "gal", I feel like I'm in a '40s musical. need to render a gender, Ed Pawlak ihnp4!ihuxn!ewp
