Has anyone here seen the new diet Coke commercials which center on the number of men who supposedly drink that crap. All of them are (by my fiancee's standards) cute to sexy, all are dressed in clothes that show off their looks (if not their bodies), and all of them are attracting the attention of women \I/ consider cute to sexy. Sounds like the "shoe" is on the other foot, as the saying goes. I think it's a "pregnant" idea. I just wonder who the target is, m (man or non-man / woman or non-wooman)? I, for one, will not drink "chemical" drinks despite who advertises them. I like enjoy as close to the real thing as I can get. Roy

I got the impression that the Diet Coke commercials, featuring all those sexy men, are to promote drinking a "diet" beverage among the male population - specifically DIET COKE! -->>Real Men drink Diet Coke!! meri RLG Corp [seismo,mcnc,we13,brl-bmd,allera]!rlgvax!meri

<<<Flame ON>>> Who really cares what "real" men do/don't/drink/eat/pick-their-noses-with? The point I was trying to make is that the sexist exploitation to which women have been subjected for many years is now being extended to men. I have received several private mail replies of the sort: "Welcome to Madison Avenue." Well, I for one refuse to calmly roll over and play dead when "Medison Avenue" cranks up its idiot mentality, and spews garbage my way. (Yeesh, what a mess of metaphors!) I have always opposed the degradation of women, supported the ERA, and done what I could to promote equality of the sexes. Now you are telling me I should accept an attempt to drag the male image down to the same level that womens' image has sunk?? No chance! And before you go getting all het up, no I am not telling you that you should be flaming mad, too. If \you/ want to accept that crap (not to mention drinking it), go right ahead. Just please stop telling me that *I* should. <<<Flame OFF>>> --Alan Wexelblat ittvax!wex or decvax!ucbvax!ittvax!wex@BERKELEY P.S. I have now gone back to drinking RC. At least they only make fun of Rolls-Royces

Meri's right about Diet Coke; it is aimed at men. Or rather, it's aimed at men and women. This is in contrast to Tab, a "women's drink" according to the folks who market it.

As I understand it, Diet Coke was developed because the Coke gods thought that Tab had a reputation of being "a woman's drink," and they wanted me to by their product, too. It's supposed to be better, but it's all carcinogen to me. --Randy
