Ok, stop flaming about my "how would you like to have been aborted?" statement! I know it's not a good argument against abortion. It assumes that the fetus is a human and a person. I just couldn't resist the parallel between the question about being an unwanted child and being aborted... A better response would have been to list some people that had been unwanted but turned out to be quite valuable to society. But, I couldn't name any... Still, mightn't there be some? Someone stated that non-permanent contraceptives are 97% effective. Actually, the pill is more than 99% effective. But, of course, that's assuming you take it correctly and there are also side effects to taking the pill -- not all women can take it. As to whether or not you have a right to choose to have children, I believe that you do up to the point that this right interferes with someone else's rights... (and we could go in circles about that). Someone mentioned that this issue had already been discussed -- well, I haven't been on the net for very long, and I'm not aware of what has already been discussed. I didn't feel (though) that I could ignore the original "CHOICE and the Senate" pro-choice comments. Especially as I thought about the things I had learned through working at the Pregnancy Aid Center. I appreciated the remarks from silver@csu-cs about the experiences of his wife in having both given up a child for adoption and had an abortion -- both the fact that he cared about the issue and that he could speak from his wife's experience. Too much of this discussion seems to be too theoretical. -- -Liz Allen ...!seismo!umcp-cs!liz (Usenet) liz.umcp-cs@Udel-Relay (Arpanet)

With regards to the pill being 99% effective: I have heard that the pill often leads to heart attacks--but only if you forget to take it. :-)(-: Ray Allen utcsrgv!ray (416) 978-5036
