You seem to be implying that serious questions should not be dis-
cussed because someone might get offended. Nuts. The question
"Would you vote for a woman for U. S. president?" IS a bit silly,
and for the very reasons you and others have mentioned -candi-
dates should be judged on individual merit. However, it hasn't
been all that long ago when the idea of women even VOTING was
considered silly and/or inflammatory, and there was a time when
men debated whether women had souls. If our foremothers had not
forced people to think and discuss issues, we would never have
got the vote. And the issue here is not so much women's ability
to lead, as it is the unthinking assumption the our leaders
must/will be male.

Perhaps ssc-vax!ginger should reword her question to: "would you never vote for a female presidental candidate?" An honest answer here would expose those who would pre-judge the candidate because of her sex. This is an important question to ask ourselves. Where do you stand?
