[net.women] toiletiquette explained

ginger@ssc-vax.UUCP (Ginger Grover) (08/09/83)

The plush toilet seat cover which prevents the seat from staying
up is just a woman's subtle way of reminding you that the seat
should be put back down. Of course, it could also be a form of
vengance. Remember when she got up in the middle of the night,
too foggy with sleep to remember to check the position of the
seat and fell the extra distance onto that cold, hard porcelain?
You thought she didn't hear you, snickering under the covers.

Personally, I think the whole shebang could be redesigned.
Although it might eliminate the hilarity of watching him stand on
his head every morning.

My experience is that the only people who complain about the position
of the seat are women who either had no brothers or had brothers
(and perhaps dad) who were trained.

It boggles my mind that people could be dumb enough not to check, no
matter how early in the morning it is. If you aren't pampered as
a kid, you'll learn to check as an automatic reflex. After all, do you
forget how to pee at 3 am? No. And that has to be learned while young
too, just like checking.
