Remember the claim that 'since Whorf was a scientitist his hypothesis must be scientific fact'? I have a follow up to this one. It goes "you must not speak Spanish, since Spanish is a romance language and you must feel more romantic when you speak it." I have heard this *twice* so far, and I would like to head this one off at the pass, so to speak. The last person with whom I had a conversation in Spanish was Ian Darwin, (utcsstat!ian). Perhaps 'conversation' is the wrong word ... we were using write(1). As I recall, we discussed the relative merits of various hard disks, whether a 5 and a half inch Winchester was big enough for some purpose, and how utcsstat had been suffering from parity errors which our new memory seems to have caused (and our replacement new memory seems to have fixed). An incredibly romantic conversation, no? Laura Creighton utzoo!utcsstat!laura
