For the Innuit, 'snow' was a rather general term which needed divisions since it was the basic material with which they lived (besides the caribou, for which had an even greater number of names). In the same way 'computer' is not good enough for me. I need to hear something about the hardware before I can have a real concept of what sort of machine you have since they are the technical tools I live with all the time. Adding a new word for 'lady chairman' conveys that the sex of the chairman is important. To some extent the current 'non-sexist terms' serve only to identify the sex of the occupant. A 'co-ed' or a 'chairperson' is automatically assumed to be female . Is this to be considered a step in the right direction? laura creighton utzoo!utcsstat!laura
