The following riddle (and people's reactions to being asked it for the first time) may be instructive. A father and son were traveling by car. They get run over by a train. An ambulance takes the pair to a hospital. The father is dead on arrival. His son is seriously injured and needs immediate surgery. A surgeon is called for. On entering the operating room, the surgeon blanches and exclaims, "I can't operate on this boy; he's my son". How can this be? ---------------------------------------- Jack Waugh Reston, Va. seismo!rlgvax!jack

I think the presence of the riddle in net.women makes the answer to the riddle quite obvious: the surgeon is the boy's mother. -- Jeff Sargent
