August 25, 1983 I think a net.women.only group would be no different from net.women. My impression of net.women, when it was formed, is that it was intended to be the type of forum Liz Allen suggested -- for womenand their concerns. There are so many men on the net, though, that when they each put in their two cents worth, net.women ends up with lots of submissions from men. I think the same thing would happen to net.women.only unless we went so far as to implement Mark Horton's suggestions. I have greatly enjoyed hearing from the women in the group. It helps to know you are not alone in some of your feelings. I have also been happy to hear some men reacting to the articles in a way that helps erase the sinking feeling I sometimes get that 90% of men hate women! There ARE some men (& women) who post articles that get me very riled up and I have sent one or two vituperous mail messages while angry. It is a bit difficult to see some of the gross misunderstandings and weird beliefs that still circulate about women -- then there are the ones who are not trying to be unkind but their statements reveal an utter lack of the ability to empathize. I would enjoy it more if the group was free of those postings, which destroy my morale. However, I am used to this sort of thing, from the world in general, and I enjoy the gems I find. Well, to re-iterate, I think net.women.only would have the same people posting as net.women does, so I vote against creating it. --Judy McMullan ...!{allegra|hcr|utzoo|utcsrgv|bunker|decvax}!watmath!jamcmullan
