You say "If only I could meet a woman who made enough money to
support a family on alternate years...."
Well, here's one. My husband hasn't worked since last December (not
by choice, unfortunately.)
Things were pretty tight while I was a student/research assistant,
but have become relatively comfortable since I began working full-time.
I'm glad and proud that circumstances have allowed me to have a significant
role in the family economy. I'm happy that my income is not considered
"pin money", and that I can have a very concrete way of expressing my
gratitude to him for the years that his income enabled me to be a student.
I'm happy, too, that circumstances have enabled him to be a very
actively involved parent. All three of us have benefitted.
A significant question, of course, is how much is "... enough money to
support a family"? My job pays considerably less than his did. But
it pays considerably more than those of many women I know who are also
supporting families. If you're talking TV-style middle-class family
then you're referring to an entirely different game than that of a lot
of people I know.
I find it hard to believe that I might be the only woman in Netland
supporting a family. Are there others?

In response to a woman making enough money to support a family-- I do. (and I'm a woman)
