The following letter to the editor appeared in Frequent Flyer*, October 1983.
I don't think I need to summarize the article that prompted it.
"Protection and Self-Protection from Hotel Crimes" (July 1983)
was obviously written by a supraparanoid individual. It made
the "Twilight Zone" look like pablum. Alfred Hitchcock, eat your
heart out.
Everything the author advised against, I have done purposely
on my travels. Nothing has happened to me. I have left the door
to my L.A. hotel room wide open. I have left hotel doors unlocked
while I slept. I have left items out in the open. Nothing was
amiss. Securely locked doors denote that there are items of value
inside. If I am in danger, precious time is saved by not having
to fumble for a room key. I am 5'4" and a female.
Enjoy life. There are so many helpful people in the world, but
we rarely hear of their good deeds.
