Check out the October issue of Harper's! It has a very amusing article
about the Success-is-for-Women Industry ("Take My Mentor--Please"). There
is also this, from a review by Rhoda Koenig of W.F. Buckley's "Overdrive":
". . . It is easier to stay up late working for hours
than to take one tenth the time to inquire into the
question of whether the work is worth performing." He
adds, rather pathetically, "The unexamined life may not
be worth living, in which case I will concede that mine
is not worth living." (I can only say that *my* husband's
life wouldn't be worth living if his most telling glimpse
of me was the one we get of Mrs. Buckley. As the author
leaves their bedroom, she gives him, as she does most
mornings, a kiss that is "a combination of listlessness,
habit and implicit affection.")
Give 'em hell, Rhoda.
