pirotte@cca.UUCP (Alain Pirotte) (11/13/83)
In November 1981, I wrote an (amateur) article (in French) about the battle
over abortion in the U.S. and especially over two anti-abortion amendments,
one proposed by Sen. Jesse Helms ("Human life bill"), the other proposed by
Sen. Orrin Hatch (to give Congress and the states joint authority to restrict
or prohibit abortions).
Publication of my article in a Belgian journal was delayed. I moved from the
U.S. to Europe and I stopped following events closely. Now the article is
about to be published and I wish to add a short update, about how the situation
evolved in the last 2 years.
Could someone help me with facts, pointers, etc.? What is the exact current
status of those two proposed amendments (I know of course that they were not
accepted, but are they still somehow alive?)? What should I not overlook?
I am not following regularly the discussions in net.women, net.politics or
net.religion (too much material to be read across the Atlantic!). So if the
subject was addressed in the last year or so and somebody has copies of
relevant messages, I would be happy to receive them.
This is urgent. Thanks for any help.
