It's too bad that the defendent didn't have the presence of mind or strength to grab the inkwell and hold it while she inserted the pen as many times as she pleased. That would have carried the analogy to its logical and proper conclusion. Or think of the scene there could have been if she'd pulled a knife or gun and ordered the defense attorney to hold the inkwell still while she worked the pen. (Ignoring, of course, the extreme probability she wouldn't have those things handy.) I'm not criticizing the woman, not at all. It's just one of those "scenes you'd like to see". Jeff Winslow

Oops! I see I referred to the woman in the case as the "defendent" (i. e., defendant). Obviously she was the plaintiff (complainant?). Freudian slip, I guess. Jeff Winslow
