--------------------- I submit this without any comment. A anecedote as related to me by an ex-roomate about a friend of his. The incident took place in Nebraska. ----- The man (boy?) in the case was a high school senior, 18 years old. During his senior year, he went out with a sophmore (age 15) for a couple of months. The girl had the reputation of being, shall we say, uh, rather loose. The couple had intercourse a few times and broke up. A short while later, the girl realizes she is pregnant, and is not sure who the father is. Her parents find out she is pregnant, and want to know who did this to their little girl. Unable to tell them the truth, she tells them she was raped by the previous guy mentioned. The scene changes. It is Saturday afternoon, and the senior is watching a Saturday afternoon Nebraska Cornhuskers football game with his parents unaware of the pregnancy or anything to do with the girl since they last went out. There is a knock on the door, the guy's dad opens it, only to find two armed policemen with a warrant for their son's arrest. He is handcuffed, read his rights, and brought down to the local jail. Talk about a suprise! It could ruin your whole day. During the next week it comes out that the guy is not guilty of rape and the girl was willing. Some other things also come out about what both guy and girl enjoy doing in their spare time. This doesn't go over well with either set of parents, and both people involved find themselves no longer living at home, with no financial support, and on very shakey ground on the communication aspect. ------ Is there a moral to the story? Any comments? ----- On a related topic, I was once mistakenly handcuffed and questioned when I was stopped for a traffic ticket and my general description matched that of a man wanted on a felony warrant in another state (aren't data bases wonderful?). It only took me about an hour to prove they had the wrong person, but it was quite an experience. At one point, the sheriff (who was hot for an arrest and sure he had a felon on his hands), wanted to have me extradited (sp?) to the other state (it was Wyoming; who wants to go there?) for processing there. It's an experience everyone should go through. They ended up not giving me the traffic ticket, though. But that's another story, and I'm taking up too space already. -- Walt Tucker Tektronix, Inc.
