"3 FIRED IN JUVENILE HALL STRIPTEASE
Three Juvenile Hall probation workers have been dismissed, with two of
them arrested on charges they allegedly had teenage girls perform a strip-
tease. One assistant deputy probation officer was also charged with en-
gaging in oral copulation with one of the minor girls."

[One, age 23, allegedly stood guard while the other, age 25, had the
illicit sexual act with one of the teen-age girls. They are, respectively,
charged with lewd or lascivious acts, and oral copulation with a female
under the age of 18. The third officer was fired for allegedly watching
the striptease, and was apparently not aware of the sexual act involving
one of the girls.]

"The alleged acts took place in Block 400 of Juvenile Hall where girls
15-17 are housed. One probation worker is normally assigned to watch
20 to 25 girls at a time.
[A new directive was issued], prohibiting male probation officers from
supervising females during night shifts...The new procedure apparently
is the result of the alleged incident last week.
Females have been supervised regularly by male probation officers in
the past, [an unidentified] probation officer said.
[Superior Judge and head of the Juvenile Court] O'Neill, who was not
familiar with the details of the incident or the with the background of
the teen-agers involved, said he was concerned about the alleged sexual
acts, but even more concerned with the breach of trust.
He said the population at Juvenile Hall varies from runaways and delin-
quents to prostitutes and abused children.
When the court places a girl in the hall, it is with the assurance that
she will be cared for, and not abused by the system, O'Neill said."
