I've been beaten more than once and it truly hurt.  My body was sore
for days.  My mind seems to have escaped unaffected.  How many rape
victims' minds escape unaffected?  

In a rape, more than the body is abused.  One's dignity, pride and 
emotional attitudes can be shattered.  This is the true crime. It's a 
crime against someones mental health - doing permanent damage with 
bruises that don't fade away by the trial date.
