<<<void>>> Several of my friends are Lesbians (or bisexual), and this subject has come up in conversation a few times: Why do feminists consider Lesbian S&M to be ``politically incorrect''? We've speculated, but haven't come up with anything more substantial than that it bothers them personally [though that's not what they say]. Sorry, I don't have the references... Does anyone have any ideas on this? Or their own opinions on the matter? Please be reasonably brief... -- Larry West UC San Diego possible net addresses: -- ARPA: west@NPRDC -- UUCP: ucbvax!sdcsvax!sdcsla!west -- or ucbvax:sdcsvax:sdcsla:west

I recall there were several articles on this subject in "Variations" magazine over the last few years. The name Pat Califia (sp?) sticks in my mind as an author.

Pat Califia also writes an advice column (sort of along the lines of "Playboy Advisor") and occasional articles for the biweekly tabloid, "The Advocate." She's presented the topics of Lesbian S&M, feminism and "political correctness" quite a few times. I find her writings quite refreshing because she states her positions unbowed by the neo-puritanical ravings of some members of the gay orthodoxy, and she comes across as an open-minded proponent of an individual's right to make free choices, regardless of the "political" climate. -- /Steve Dyer decvax!bbncca!sdyer sdyer@bbncca
