So try following the appropriate vowel with an e, and you get Fraeulein (pronounced like froy-line) and Maedchen (pronounced like maid-(you have to do the chen like the Germans do, but some people fake it with shen)) Calling a woman a girl may be bad enough, but calling her a little worm? Frankly, a woman with status is called Frau. You probably wouldn't call a professor Fraeulein, even if she was 29 and single. And what do you mean, "desirable"?
