Like, having been in a stable relationship with one women for about 3-1/2 years, I take offense when my parents or her parents drop in without warning, suddenly (but temporarily) re-united after months of transcontinental traipsing, bickering over who's entitled to what, whining about how they got the wrong end of the marriage, blah, blah, etc. And then, oblivious our presence, they will refer to us as "the children".
