A little while back, someone asked about Lou Reed, and whether he had ever played with the old sixties band Velvet Underground. She has since been answered (he did, play with them) He was the leader of the group, though some credit has to be given to Handy Andy Worhol, who is probably the only guy that could have gotten Lou Reed, John Cale, and Nico into the same band. His vision was to create a group to do music about modern decadence, so that he could do interesting cover art. Of course, Nico and John Cale only did a few of the Velvet's records, and Worhol only did art for the first few. I have a record called "Squeeze" the Velvet Underground. It was not a commercial success. It was Doug Yule's effort to continue the band after Lou Reed left it, and went solo. It has a song about Jack and Jane (of Sweet Jane) in which he seems bitter about the break up. Another interesting album by the Velvets is "Loaded". Listening to this album especially "Who Loves the Sun" reminds me of Spinal Tap playing "Listen to the Flower People". Clearly an effort to be commercial.
