<***> Last night, two friends and I attended the first half of the Sure Fit Designs seminar, which is advertised as a sewing clothes to fit YOU deal. We got a template with all sorts of nice curves on it, which is meant to be used with their "system". Anyway, the first hour and a half dealt with the 11 body measurements needed, and what to do with them. The instructor then proceeded to show us how to create a perfectly fitting pattern, so any garments constructed from that pattern would fit our bodies. She did this using a special basic pattern kit, which was available only from them. She then went into amazing detail on all the variations that could be created from this one pattern, and showed us some fashion design tricks. After the break (no coffee or anything, except water), the instructor, her husband, and the owner gave us a fashion show. My opinion of most of the clothing was that it "looked homemade", which is what most of us that sew are trying to avoid! For the next hour, the instructor showed off all the kits that Sure Fit Designs sold. Anything that was explained at the seminar was of practically no use unless the kit was purchased. There are 4 kits, a dress kit, a pants kit, a shirt kit, and a children's kit. You can get all 4 for about $95. My complaint is that I paid $10 to hear a sales pitch! Nothing in that class is of any use unless the kit is purchased! Other sewing seminars I have taken have been much better, as books and necessary materials are included in the fee, which is not *anywhere* near $95! I'm not saying that their kits and system do not work. They probably do. My objection is that I had to sit through a sales pitch, instead of getting information and techniques that I could use. -- Lynne Fitzsimmons UUCP: {allegra, decvax, ihnp4, orstcs, ucbvax, zehntel, ogcvax, reed, uw-beaver, hplabs}!tektronix!teklabs!lynnef CSnet: lynnef@tek ARPAnet: lynnef.tek@rand-relay
