This information comes from an article in the Sunday N.Y. Times, 4/22/84. Two women, Linda Cooper and Laurel Gruenwald, have formed a company called Interpersonal Softwear (sic), which holds computer training parties, Tupperware-Party-style, for groups of women. They arrive with an Atari 800, a 19-inch TV, a collection of software, magazines, instruction books, and cookies. They "offer women the opportunity to learn the basics about computers in their own homes or the homes of friends. The fee for a two-hour workshop is $35 a person, with a 25 percent discount for the hostess." While they take male clients by referral, their prime target is women. The two women had no knowledge of computers until two years ago. More details are available in the article (entitled Cookies, Coffee and Computers for those of you with access to the Times). The phone number for Interpersonal Softwear is 212-924-8424. I think it's a great idea. I hope it takes off around the country. I think that women in the computer field should take the initiative of organizing these parties for their non-technical- type friends, if and when these parties become available in their areas.
