[net.women] "excerpt from Judy Mann's column"

anderson@ittvax.UUCP (Scott Anderson) (05/01/84)

There is a regular column in the Washington Post written by Judy Mann
(if I haven't gotten the name wrong.) I saved a small portion of one
article for posting. A little grist for the mills:

------------------------
Half of the victims of sexual abuse are
between birth and the age of 11.
At a minimum, one out of eight girls
is a victim before she is 18, according to
national estimates cited by the report. In
95 percent of the cases, she is abused by
a relative or friend.
    A retrospective study of 1,200
college-age women found that 28 percent
had sexual experience with an adult
before they were 13, but only 6 percent
of the incidents had been reported to
authorities.
-------------------------

I'm sorry I didn't save enough of the article to give the name of the
mentioned report, the date, or even check the byline. For those who
want to check the original, I'm pretty sure the paper was from the week
of April 15th.
