Craig Votava says: > Following all this (if you have to this point) I find it supressive that > valid studies that come up with generalizations about groups (for whatever > value they may have) are discredited because some people take offense to them. It's the validity of the studies I argue against: we don't have any way of distilling out the social influences and the genetic influences and considering them separately. I will admit to a tendency to discrediting those who want attention paid to studies of questionable validity. I remember reading about a recent study postulating a sex-linked difference in ability to perceive or visualize spatial relationships (as was mentioned by Mr. Martillo). This reminded me of the women in Flatland, who were needle- shaped, and this shape combined with their lack of intelligence made them dangerous animals to have running around loose. In Flatland, the men were the superior polygons, able to perceive the world around them, but women were mere lines. I had alot of difficulty visualizing this volume of nonsense, and at this point I caused it to be projected in a parabola towards a vertical plane about 9 feet away. Why, even my mother is afraid of snakes." :-) Lisa Chabot UUCP: ...{ decvax | allegra | ucbvax }!decwrl!rhea!amber!chabot USFail: DEC, MR03-1/K20, 2 Iron Way, Marlboro, MA 01752 shadow: ...{ decvax | allegra | ucbvax }!decwrl!rhea!avalon!chabot
