[net.women] Amenities in Bathrooms

[Pull Down & Tear Up]

Maybe you should be living in Toronto. It's commonplace to find a chair
or bench in shopping-plaza women's rooms there. A humane custom.

Now, I'm not talking about Buffalo.

Don't read this if you're tired of bathroom stories, but I think I have
seen "the most inequitable" set of bathrooms. There is a cheap movie
house near here ($1.50 all the time) where *each* stall in the ladies room
has (besides the obvious) a sink *and* an area to put things down, like
dirty babies. I was told (by someone who ought to know) that the mens
room had none of these things.

Oh well, I went to see the movie anyway.

PS. A big :-) was intended, sorry if I offended.

New York State has just passed a regulation mandating equal toilet
facilities in public buildings for men and women.
This really means an equal number of flushable devices.
This will not eliminate lines for women's toilets, since
human factor studies (Kordas, 1957) have shown that
on the average it takes longer for women to use toilet
facilities than for men, because of anatomical and
clothing differnces.

Is there something about women's clothing which makes women have to go to
the bathroom more? Is this specific to Western style clothes?

But we can all agree on one belief -- the existence of the planets.

I went to school at a college that was formerly about 10 years
ago all male. In the computer center, the mens bathroom was out in the
terminal area, while the womens bathroom was behind the I/O desk. You had to
someone to let you in to the bathroom at night as the area was locked up.
I found this very unfair when pulling all nighters.
Also some dorm bathrooms for women still had urinals in them!
